Asolo

Asolo is a very small town outside of Venice. It is charming but I would not stay here more than I needed to, it is just too quiet.

I settled into my room on campus without much trouble. The campus, dated back to the 16th century,  is situated halfway up a hill top. The view is stunning (I will take some pictures when the weather is nicer). There are only 8 live-in students here, 7 American boys in their mid-20s and one Vietnamese girl. So, Nhi was thrilled to have me there, even for 11 days. She showed around town, which took us a whole 30 minutes to walk through all the stores. There are no chain stores in town. That means, no Starbucks. That means, I am stuck with European coffee. That means, I have having coffee withdraws. I had to get some Lipton tea to satisfy my caffeine needs in the morning. Besides the live-in students, the others are all local Italians. It was a good mix.Classes are from 9 am to 6 pm, only on Saturday and Sunday. I will have the weekdays to work on the written assignments.

My circadian clock is still very confused, after traveling from the US, HK, and now Italy in a week. I slept for 18 hours the first night, the second night I was awake the whole night, and tonight, I was awake at 3 am. The first day of class was the day of no sleep. It would not have been that bad if the monotone guest speaker had been focused and interesting. He was scheduled to speak next week but showed up a week early! With his thick Italian accent, soft voice, no powerpoint, and no focus topic, I struggled to stay awake.

I am glad that we made the decision for me to take this course in Asolo. The class (leadership and personal development) is not offered in the HK curriculum. After learning all the financial, economics, and marketing aspects of the business, learning about myself, what I want to be, how to become an effective leader, kind of put it all together in a nice package. These 11 days in Asolo is sort of a retreat for me, the remoteness is perfect for this course, which involves a lot of thinking and reflecting.
